The Hamilton Lutheran Parish
The Hamilton Lutheran Parish was formed in 1923 with the congregations of Hamilton, Heywood, Portland, Urangara (near Cavendish) and Coleraine.
In 1951 Heywood and Portland formed a separate Parish. Urangara ceased services in 1946. Services recommenced in the Cavendish area in 1956 and in 1967 “St Luke’s” congregation was formed and accepted into the Hamilton Lutheran Parish as it is known today.
On Sunday 17th March, 1957 the foundation stone was laid for a new Lutheran Church in Hamilton. Eighteen months later on Sunday 14th September, 1958 a dedication of the “Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Hamilton” building was celebrated by the Hamilton parish (top).
The Hamilton Parish currently comprises the Cavendish and Hamilton congregation.
The Western District of Victoria is rich in Lutheran tradition and our parish is blessed to have close ties with other Lutheran Churches and Lutheran institutions in Hamilton including the Good Shepherd Child Care Centre and Kindergarten, Good Shepherd College and Eventide Lutheran Homes and Hamilton Village.
